Ko Pha-ngan island (Thailand)

Hey! Hello from Thailand folks !

It was a really busy week for us ! But definatly great one :)
We left Lankawi ( Malaysia ) really excited , because more or less we knew what to expect and we already knew what a paradise on earth Thailand is , since its our second visit :)

We took ferry from Lankawi to Satun and then changed few buses before we arrived to Hat Yai city. Unlucky for us we waited  for a bus in Satun to Hat Yai couple of hours and when this old tired bus arrived... I was like ,OK we have to give it a try , but when we started moving , they switch on this horrible Thai pop music out loud, not mentioning that the bus  stopped in every possible village,so there we are with full bus of local people and this horrible music after about 3 hours hilarious, bizarre experience we finally reached Hat Yai. And all this fun trip cost us 75RM ( about £14 ) per person.  lol.  We had to stay overnight in Hat Yai, because of this  long and tirring all day trip. We found nice place to sleepover a bit outside city centre called PS resort which cost us 480 bath (£9) per person, near by a big supermarket . We were very pleased , because there was cheap European restaurants and big choice of western food :) , The place it self was clean and we even got free condoms! Usually hostel give free soup , shampoo or etc. , but this hostel i guess is different .Lol . Hat Yai city itself is different from other places in Thailand , looks grey and boring , so there is not much to write about it. The only interesting thing we found that there was yellow watermelons , which I never seen or try before . So we bought one red and one yellow watermelon just to try and compare . I have to say yellow one was much more sweeter .

Next day again almost all day , 11 hours traveling  by bus and ferry to our next destination Koh Phangan island ! It cost us 690 bath ( £13) per person. When we finally arrived to the place called Blue Hill Resort, where we had to stay, there was a power cut for whole area of that island ! Sooo...we where so tired we just wanted to get to bed. When we entered our room it was really nice and kind of fancy in the candle light, compare for example with the room in Kuala Lumpur which even had no windows and we had to share the shower for the same price...But anyway the real surprise was next day ! We woke up , open curtains and ...Woulia ! There was beautiful balcony with the sea view where you can watch sunset and sunrise ! Not to mention that there was 5min walk to the beach and they had swimming pool with a sea view as well! Also its 15min walk to the Haad Rin town which is famous for its original fool moon parties ! All this amazing place cost us just 800 baht ( about £15 ) per night ! Thanks to my lovely wife. :) We supposed to stay for 4 nights , but we loved the place so much that we extended for one more ! If you will plan visit Koh Phangan, I highly recommend this place ! :) There was just one minor minus , we had a `pet` small lizard in our room that we couldn't get rid of...but i guess it was his room not ours , we were just guests ,lol.

Anyway first day we just took it easy , walked around town where was plenty small siouvener shops  and then we just enjoyed Haad Rin beach all day. Just a little advise , don't forget to wear sunscreen if you stay all day in the beach . The sun is so strong , but you don't feel it , because of a cool wind , so that day I got my first sun burn ! :(  In the evening we had dinner and watched another beautiful sunset :) Even there was not fool moon party period, all Haad Rin was buzzing with night life , plenty bars, restaurant and alcohol on every corner ...can't imagine how it looks like on fool moon party!

Next day we were lazy again didn't do much , just walked around and relaxed by the pool.
Third day we rented scooter from the hotel just for 200 bath ( around £4) a day or you can find in the town for the same price. Petrol once again very cheap , so I guess its the best way to explore the island. We started day by visiting local village were they make homemade ice cream! I am not big fan of ice cream but they were really good ! My favorite was fresh coconut ice cream :) Then we went to see small waterfall and Chinese temple , which was really great , but view from there was even greater. :) After then we were in a hunt of the best beaches of island. We went all around looking for the best spot and we decided that the winner for us was Chaloklum bay resort beach. On the way back we did some fruit shopping and stopped once more for homemade ice cream :)

And finally the last day on the last minute we decided to do this boat trip around Ang Thing Marine Park islands , it cost us 1800 bath  ( about £34) per person including transfer from and back to hotel, kayaking , breakfast, lunch , light snacks and drinks on board, which was out of our budget , but we promised to squeeze in our budget later . Now with all my heart I can say that we did a good thing , we had wonderful day ! We did swimming and snorkeling at Koh Wao in crystal water by the riff where you can see a great variety of beautiful tropical fish and other marine life . Then we kayak from So Ka beach to Koh Mae Koh where is breathtaking emerald lagoon Talay Nai surrounded by steep limestone cliffs ! Last bit was Koh Wua Talap island here you can choose to go to see the caves with beautiful limestone formations or take proper rock  hike to the top of the island which has most astonishing view of all Ang Thong Marine Park. My wife is not big fan of hiking so we decided to split up , because I just couldn't let go away this hiking adventure . So my wife went to see caves and I did one of the best hiking ever. When I reached the very top I was just speechless for a few minutes. When we came back down straight away jumped in the water to cool down and had refreshing coconut juice on the beach. On the way back to hotel I realised that its one of those days that I will never forget...

We had really pleasant stay in Ko Phangan and for the first time in this trip we just wanted to stay there just a bit longer , but unfortunately we had to move on...
Next stop Krabi! See ya! ;)

Love & Peace

Labas mieli skaitytojai,
